Alberta joining class-action lawsuit against opioid manufacturers, distributors
CALGARY- The Kenney government is joining a class-action lawsuit related to the opioid crisis.
The UCP says the goal is to recoup health-care costs associated with 800 fatal overdoses and 4,200 emergency calls in Alberta last year.
Ontario and New Brunswick previously said they were joining the suit filed by B.C. last year, alleging drug manufacturers falsely marketed opioids as less addictive than other pain medicines, thus triggering the crisis.
B.C. attorney general David Eby is pleased Alberta has joined the multi-provincial lawsuit.
