Thorsby RCMP looking into two early Sunday morning break-ins

Oct 6, 2019 | 11:12 AM

Thorsby RCMP are investigating a pair of break and enters they say happened early Sunday morning (Oct. 6).

It was 4:30 a.m. on Sunday when police were dispatched to an alarm at the Village Supermarket (5101 50 Ave., Thorsby). A short time later, a resident reported a loud noise at the Thorsby Esso gas station, stating that it looked like someone had broken in.

Members wound up attending to the gas station first, and the investigation found via CCTV surveillance that a silver F350 with aluminum rims backed into the business’s glass door.

A male wearing a black hoodie is seen breaking more glass, going into the store and attaching a sling to the ATM. The truck then drives forward with the ATM causing significant damage.

Over at the supermarket, a break-in had occurred in a similar fashion with thieves attempting to steal the ATM. They were unsuccessful.

It is believed that the F-350 may have broken a tail light during the crime and there is pre-existing damage noticeable on the drivers door.

Anyone who may have information on these break and enters is asked to contact the Thorsby detachment at 780-789-3951. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.

Thorsby RCMP are advising the public that both businesses will be closed for some time while the investigation takes place and repairs are made.
