October is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Oct 2, 2019 | 5:29 AM

Red Deer- October is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Child Advocacy Centres’ across Alberta are helping kids in their communities find their voice.

Alberta is proud to have eight of the 27 Child Advocacy Centres’ in Canada, these centres’ are fully operational or in various stages of future development.

Child Advocacy Centres’ are a safe place where children and youth who have experienced abuse can go to tell their story and be supported throughout the entire disclosure, investigation, judicial and healing journey.

By supporting children, youth and their non-offending caregivers we provide them with customized supports that best suit their needs and will allow them to heal at their own pace.

Children are resilient; we see it every day as they show their courage and strength in telling their story.

By wearing blue to show your support we are sparking the conversation around child abuse and creating a community where children are believed and feel safe in telling their story.

It is everyone’s legal and moral duty to report child abuse and we all need to equip ourselves with the tools to recognize abuse and speak up for our children.

Studies suggest that child abuse is still highly underreported to authorities.

On October 24 wear blue in support of the children within our communities who need us to be their voice and help build safer and stronger communities.
