Thunder enter October at .500 after weekend wins

Things are looking up for the Drayton Valley Thunder after a pair of wins at the AJHL Showcase last weekend in Camrose.

The Thunder downed the Canmore Eagles 6-4 on Friday then followed up with a 5-2 win over the Olds Grizzlys on Saturday.

Drayton Valley trailed Canmore 3-0 after the first period before scoring four times to take the lead. Canmore evened the game at 4-4 before Brett Bamber scored the game winner 45 seconds into period three. Bailey Tamminga scored a late empty netter for some insurance.

Eric Ward made 15 saves to earn his first win with the Thunder.

It was a different story versus Olds as it was the Thunder who stormed out to a 4-0 on their way to victory. Nine different players recorded points for Drayton Valley, including five different goal scorers. Rory Dumelie made 31 saves for the win in goal.

Drayton Valley is now 3-3-1 as they enter October in fifth place in the North Division. Klessen and Hopps are tied for the team lead in points with eight through seven games.

The Thunder are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 5 when the take on the Whitecourt Wolverines at the Omniplex (7:30 p.m. game time).
