Preliminary hearing for Innisfail man charged with manslaughter

An Innisfail man charged with manslaughter for a death that occurred earlier this year will face a preliminary hearing.

Malcolm Nathaniel Bourgeois, 41, pleaded not guilty on Sept. 12 in Red Deer provincial court. A preliminary hearing, which will determine whether there is enough evidence present for the case to proceed to trial, will take place April 29, 2020.

At around 10:30 p.m. on April 24, Mounties responded to an injured man on a sidewalk in the area of 51 Avenue and 49 Street in Innisfail.

The victim, 26-year-old Winston “Drew” Grant, died after being taken to hospital.
