RCMP now say one of two teens injured in a head-on crash near Ponoka over the weekend has died.

The collision between a sedan and pickup truck happened at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 795, just north of Highway 53 west of Ponoka.

Police say the southbound sedan crossed the centre line and struck the northbound pickup truck.

Highway 795 was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision analyst investigated. No charges are anticipated.

Both occupants of the sedan were flown to U of A hospital in Edmonton.

The 17-year-old male driver from Lacombe died from his injuries on Sunday.

The second teen, a 16-year-old male, suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in the collision. RCMP have not given an update on his condition.

The lone occupant of the pickup truck, a 54-year-old male, was examined at the crash scene by EMS and released.
