Library expects to break records and add new resource
Sylvan Lake Municipal Library offers many resources, from free recreational and educational programs to book and equipment loans, and those resources may soon include a Nintendo Switch gaming console for people to use at the library.
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and Parkland Regional Library has issued a challenge to member libraries. Whichever library sees the largest increase in new memberships this month will win a Nintendo Switch package valued at $560. Existing card-holders are encouraged to join in the challenge by referring their friends to the library.
Over 2,000 people have a library card at Sylvan Lake Municipal Library. Staff expect that number to rise dramatically this month, especially on September 12, when anyone can sign up for a library card free of charge.
“A library card opens up opportunities and provides resources beyond the free programming that is available to everyone, with or without a library card,” said Corrie Brown, Programmer at Sylvan Lake Municipal Library. “For example, you can attend programs for free about space or science, however, with a library card you can sign out the telescope or microscope.”
