Rebels drop preseason opener in Edmonton

A young Red Deer Rebels squad had a tough start to the preseason as they were handled 5-2 by the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday.

The Rebels sat many of their veterans for the “Young Guns” game played at the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton.

Mason Ward scored in the first period and Jace Weir in the second period for the Rebels.

Byron Fancy allowed all five goals against on 29 Oil Kings shots through 27:16 of play. Eric Ward kept a clean sheet on 10 shots through the second half of the game.
