Red Deer Crush strike gold at inaugural Alberta Masters Games

A “throw together group of over 50-year-old hockey players” came home from the first ever Alberta Masters Games in Rocky Mountain House last weekend with the gold medal.

The Red Deer Crush kicked off five games in three days with an 11-1 win over Deroch and a 13-1 win over the Rocky Oldtimers on day 1, then crushed the Rock 7-1 and the Rocky Oldtimers 12-2 on day 2 to advance to the Gold Medal game on Sunday. The Crush won Gold with a 4-1 victory over the Rock.

Members of the team Red Deer Crush included Blaine Ringham, Todd Thiessen, Mike Gouchie, Steve Van Tettering, Chuck Pimm, Stan Krawiec, John Frere, Ritch Anderson, Frank Somer, Adrian LaChance, Mike Toal, Russ Wlad, Mark Dowler, Glenn Barre, Gary Smith, Kevin Watson.

The Rocky Oldtimers won the Bronze Medal with a 6-4 win over Deroch.
