Bucs look to win first AFL title this weekend
For the third time in four years the Central Alberta Buccaneers find themselves one win away from a league championship. This year, though, they hope to finally get over the hump and bring it home.
The Bucs head south on Saturday to battle the Calgary Wolfpack in the Alberta Football League title game. Game time at McMahon Stadium is at 2 p.m.
Both teams finished with 5-3 regular season records and split their head-to-head series with the Buccaneers winning 31-21 on May 25 in Calgary and the Wolfpack winning 49-35 in Red Deer on July 13.
Saturday’s game will feature the league’s top two passers. Bucs QB Jarrett Burzuk led the way with 1,813 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. Long-time AFL star Darryl Leason threw for 1,260 yards and nine touchdowns.
