Central Alberta homes sales remain down

Local home sales continue to remain down in comparison to last year.

That according to the Central Alberta Realtors Association which reports residential sales through the MLS® System of the Central Alberta REALTORS® Association numbered 373 units in June, down 7.4 per cent from June 2018.

On a year-to-date basis, officials say home sales totaled 1,774 units over the first six months of the year, a 10.2 per cent decrease from the same period last year.

Elsewhere, residential sales activity in all of Alberta last month was down 4.2 per cent when compared to June, 2018.

Meanwhile, the dollar value of all home sales in June was $113.5 million, down 9.4 per cent from the same month in 2018.

By comparison, the dollar value of all home sales in Alberta decreased 8.1 per cent compared to the same month last year.

In addition, there were 933 new residential listings in June, a decrease of 14.1 per cent on a year-over-year basis, marking an 11-year low for the month.

Officials say overall supply however is still high, but did top out a year ago and has been falling. Active residential listings numbered 4,320 units at the end of June, down 9.1 per cent from the peak at the end of June, 2018.

Finally, sales of all property types numbered 397 units in June, down 6.4 per cent from the same month last year.

The total value of all properties sold was $127.8 million, a 7.7 per cent decline from June, 2018.
