Large crowds attend Westerner Days as weather rebounds

Jul 21, 2019 | 12:24 PM

The weather and attendance bounced back in a big way on day four of Westerner Days.

Organizers say 24,132 guests came to the fair on Saturday, up from 21,000 on the same day last year.

People were also able to come in an hour earlier after hours were extended to make up for the unfortunate rain seen on days two and three.

Saturday also saw the return of the chuckwagons which were cancelled due to the rain on Friday, not to mention the postponed fireworks.

Martina Hubl with the Westerner Park Past Presidents Tarp finished first with a time of 79.93.

In the Pony Chuckwagon races, ABC Country Restaurant driven by Neil Salmond captured first with a time of 79.64. Salmond also holds the top aggregate time with one round remaining on Sunday.

In 2018, Westerner Days attracted just over 90,500 people. So far this year — again, with the rain in mind — just over 61,000 have come through.
