Thompson keeps foot on the gas in race for Indy Pro 2000 title

Jun 24, 2019 | 3:12 PM

Parker Thompson just keeps on rolling, picking up not one but two podium finishes this weekend at Road America in Wisconsin.

The young race car driver from Red Deer was competing in events six and seven of the Indy Pro 2000 tour presented by Cooper Tires.

On day one, Thompson began in the pole position, but wound up in third.

Day two saw him start fourth and move up to finish third.

“It is great to get on the podium here in Road America. Given some of my recent results in this series, a strong showing here was important to staying competitive in this tight 2019 Championship,” Thompson says.

“Wisconsin, and Road America, is also the closest thing that I have to a home outside of Canada. We’ve got a great group of fans and supporters here to cheer us on. We are so happy to be able to pull this result together and celebrate with them all.”

Thompson now sits second in the standings, 30 points behind first and one point ahead of third, with 10 races remaining.

Up next for Thompson is a doubleheader weekend, first June 28-29 at Watkins Glen, NY for the next round of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA.

Then, June 29-30 is rounds five and six of the Canadian Touring Car Championships in Shannonville, ON. Thompson hasn’t confirmed if he’ll be racing in both events on the 29th.

July 12-14, Thompson will race in the Indy Pro 2000 and Porsche GT3 Cup tours, both in Toronto.
