Town of Rocky re-evaluating affordable housing investments

Jun 18, 2019 | 9:34 AM

The Town of Rocky Mountain House is re-evaluating old investments like affordable housing as it looks for ways to reduce the burden on taxpayers.

“Should we be in the affordable housing business, there are a lot of non-profits that provide that service,” ponders Chief Administrative Officer Dean Krause. “Right now we have three houses plus the post house upstairs, so is there a better way of having affordable housing in the community that isn’t a burden on the taxpayers.”

Habitat for Humanity will be appearing at Tuesday’s council meeting looking to purchase one of those properties.

“We’re actually going through the whole organization now so when we talk about properties, it’s what properties do we own and do we need them because right now they cost us,” states Krause.
