Man falls to his death in climbing accident in Jasper National Park

JASPER – Police say a 63-year old man has died in Jasper National Park after falling in a climbing accident.

Jasper RCMP say they responded to the Leech Lake area with Parks Canada and emergency medical staff about 4 p.m. on Thursday.

They say a 911 call reported a man had fallen approximately 30 metres.

Emergency crews found the climber and he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police have identified the man as Steven Stanko from Jasper.

They say an investigation has determined that the fall was an accident.

Police say Stanko was climbing with another man and a couple from Jasper.
