Town Cruiser

Town of Rocky welcomes new vehicle

May 27, 2019 | 4:19 PM

Locals in Rocky Mountain House can expect to see the Town’s new vehicle driving around town and the province.

Prior to Council approving the purchasing the new cruiser, all Town employees would charge mileage for any business-related travel, including the weekly mail run required between all government facilities.

The new vehicle was budgeted for $52,000. Mayor Tammy Burke and Council have assured that the savings from no longer paying for mileage on personal vehicles more than cover the amount.

The new cruiser isn’t just for the mayor and town council

“All staff and not just at the town office either,” explains Communications Coordinator Laura Button. “We have staff that work out of the Christenson Sports and Wellness Centre and Public Works, whether they’re attending conferences or training or in the case of economic development, trade shows out of town.

“The vehicle is there for their use which then negates them having to take their own personal vehicles and then us having to pay for mileage.”

The Town has sent out an email to all staff urging them to use the vehicle as much as possible for local use and out of town for promotional purposes.

“It is the expectation that if a staff member is running a town business errand or heading to a meeting out of town they will take advantage of the town vehicle, provided it is available at the time,” states Button “The use of this vehicle is great to promote our beautiful town just in time for summer and at the height of tourism season.”
