Sentencing date set for woman accused of robbing Red Deer bank with a needle

May 8, 2019 | 10:57 AM

Sentencing is set to take place this summer for one of two people charged in the robbery of a Red Deer bank with a needle last year.

Diana Lynn Ferchuk, 47, is charged with robbery with a weapon, resist/obstruct peace officer, and possession of a Schedule 1 substance in the Jan. 17, 2018 incident. She is due in court for sentencing on July 30.

It was on Jan. 17 of 2018 when RCMP responded to reports of a woman who had robbed the CIBC bank at 6721 50 Avenue by threatening a teller with a needle, then fleeing on foot with a man waiting outside.

Mounties say the suspects were arrested near Piper Drive a short time later and seized cash, a needle and what was believed to be oxycodone.

Christopher Craig Hofer, 27, was also charged with armed robbery and possession of a Schedule 1 substance. He was sentenced in March to 37 days in jail satisfied by time served and given 12 months of probation in addition to a $400 surcharge.

No one was hurt in the 2018 incident.
