Parker Thompson continues to set the racing world on fire.

The Red Deer native finished first and second this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in what was the third and fourth races of the 2019 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA.

Thompson navigated treacherously wet conditions, and doing so in his #3 JDX Racing/Hertz/Byers Porsche.

“The results this weekend are truly exciting. With the help of Hertz and Byers Porsche, the JDXRacing crew has put together a great race car,” says Thompson.

“While I was happy with my pace right from the start of the season, there is still room for improvement. This weekend was a great indicator of progress, and a sure sign that we can contend for the overall championship. I’m honoured to work with a great team of people, and so excited for what the future holds.”

On Saturday, Thompson was dominant in a race that saw 11 out of 22 laps run under a yellow flag.

With cleaner conditions Sunday, Thompson began in the pole position, but was eventually overtaken by fellow Canadian and championship leader Roman DeAngelis.

Now four races into his sports car career, Thompson had made the podium every time out.

Thompson sits second in the GT3 Cup Challenge USA standings, and is also first in the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 standings after winning the first two races of that championship.

Up next for the 21-year-old is the next set of races on the Indy Pro circuit May 10-12 at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

The Porsche circuit resumes June 7 at the Montreal F1 Grand Prix.
