Construction to continue in city’s budding riverside neighbourhood

May 2, 2019 | 4:30 PM

A substantial amount of construction is set to begin in Red Deer’s Capstone at Riverlands area.

Starting May 8, a portion of Alexander Way (47 Street) will close, weather dependent.

The closure is necessary so that the road can be completed because it is a key gateway for the neighbourhood.

Last year, crews completed underground work, including electrical duct banks, concrete curbs and gutters, new water sanitary mains, and a new storm trunk.

Now, further work will focus on electrical, communications, gas lines, flex parking lanes, sidewalks, bike paths, street lighting, furniture, street planters and landscaping.

More specifically, work will continue on Canada 150 Square nd the parking lot to the east of it, as well as the south and north riverwalk, a key natural feature of Capstone.

There will be some trail closures.

Meantime, businesses will remain open with access maintained via 45 Street.

The City of Red Deer is also offering residents bi-weekly construction updates.
