Red Deer Dream Centre

Open house next week for proposed addiction treatment centre

Apr 23, 2019 | 5:00 PM

A group looking to turn a former nightclub in downtown Red Deer into a drug and alcohol .addiction treatment centre is inviting the public to learn more about their plans.

An open house is scheduled for Thursday, May 2 at 4618 50 Ave., formerly the Lotus night club, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Several Christian investors have come together with hopes of turning the building into the “Red Deer Dream Centre.”

Modelled after the Calgary Dream Centre, the facility would include 20 to 40 addiction treatment beds to provide care for 49 days.

The plan, which could involve adding a third and fourth floor to the building, is pegged at about $2 million.

Guest speakers for the May 2 open house include Jim Moore, Chris Sciberras and Gary Carmichael with the Calgary Dream Centre, which has been providing addiction treatment services in that city for 15 years.

“This event is open for all to attend,” say organizers of the open house. “Whether you’re a business owner, a supporter or a concerned citizen, please come and listen to the Calgary Dream Centre is doing and has done. See what a recovery centre in the heart of downtown Red Deer could look like.”

Those interested in attending the open house are encouraged to register online.
