Man dies after jet boat overturns on river in northern Alberta

GRANDE PRAIRIE – Police say a 45-year old man has died after a jet boat hit strong rapids and overturned on a river in northwest Alberta.

RCMP and emergency services responded Monday afternoon to the Bear Creek river south of Grande Prairie.

Two people had been in the boat.

One man was found in the river and transported by air ambulance to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police say the second man in the boat was able to swim to shore.

The boat has not yet been recovered and police continue to investigate the death.

No names have been released.
