Firefighters to answer questions in Oriole Park following massive industrial fire

Apr 18, 2019 | 11:53 AM

Members of Red Deer Emergency Services will visit some homes in Oriole Park this evening to answer any questions following yesterday’s massive industrial fire on Golden West Avenue.

The fire at Red Deer Ironworks remains under investigation. No one was injured.

Officials say the focus of tonight’s visit is to answer questions from residents about smoke that may have entered nearby homes.

They say if you notice a lingering smell of smoke inside your home to follow these steps:

– Open as many windows as possible to allow fresh air to circulate through your home.

– Wash walls and hard surfaces with water and vinegar, or water and TSP.

– Circulate air through your home using the furnace fan; check to ensure the filter is clean.

– Vacuum smoke alarms using a soft brush attachment to help remove some of the dust from the sensing chamber, reducing the risk for false alarms.

If you believe you have smoke damage to your home, beyond what you can deal with, contact your insurance company for assistance.

The visits are part of the After the Fire Program, delivered by Emergency Services to check in and provide educational opportunities for neighbourhoods that have recently experienced a fire.
