Notley accuses Kenney of making secret policy changes to UCP platform

SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. – Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley says the United Conservatives are trying to pull a fast one on voters in the April 16 election by slipping in changes to their policy platform.

Notley says the United Conservative policy document, which was rolled out last weekend, has new unannounced changes.

Notley notes that UCP Leader Jason Kenney has been touting his plan to get rid of the budget deficit in four years.

But she says changes posted online to the UCP policy document state that a blue ribbon panel will now handle that task.

Notley says while Kenney has been criticizing the New Democrats’ handling of the economy, it now appears he doesn’t have a plan of his own to balance the books and intends to outsource that job to the panel.

Kenney’s party, in a statement, says the bulk of the changes are stylistic and that the blue ribbon panel would remain in an advisory role on getting the budget back to balance.
