Local teen donating locks for cancer patients

A 15-year-old Red Deer football player is sharing his luscious locks with cancer patients.

Bryon Alexander, who was diagnosed a number of years ago with Asperger’s, a form of autism, first took part in the Hair Massacure event at West Edmonton Mall in 2017.

He’s now re-grown his hair out to about a foot in length and is set to have it chopped off on Feb. 22.

“Some people are going through a lot right now having cancer or going through chemotherapy causing them to have no hair, so I decided I wanted to donate my hair to cancer,” the offensive and defensive lineman says.

“It makes me feel very good to know they’re getting all that nice and long healthy hair.”

His father, James, says the feeling of seeing his son do this is almost indescribable.

“I am beyond over the moon. For 15-years-old, I can say I’m raising a decent man at this point,” he says.

“The autism will always be with him and same with this, this is something he can do every two years. Both of my grandparents died of cancer, so it’s something kind of close to home, but he does it simply because he loves to do it.”

The first go-round, Bryon raised $40 for the cause to go along with his hair, so he’d like to aim higher this time.
