The Lending Cupboard hosts Jann Arden at first Winter Luncheon Monday

Jan 26, 2019 | 3:03 PM

Attendees of the first ever Winter Luncheon hosted by The Lending Cupboard will be joined by a big name this Monday in Red Deer.

Canadian music legend Jann Arden will be the keynote speaker at the organization’s event which aims to raise more funds and awareness of what The Lending Cupboard does for the community.

“It’s certainly the largest event that we’ve ever entertained. We wanted to do something that was going ot be inspiring, informative and a little bit of fun as well,” says Executive Director Dawna Morey.

“We really wanted to invite someone to this event that has a connection with what we do here. As many people know, we lend out medical equipment and often those clients are people dealing somewhere along the spectrum of dementia.”

Last month, Arden’s mother Joan Richards passed away following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Arden herself has been outspoken in her support for ridding the world of the stigma around the type of disease her mother suffered with for over a decade.

Client numbers at The Lending Cupboard were up eight per cent in 2018 over 2017, according to Morey.

“More people are needing our service, more people are finding out about us,” she says. “This event is also an opportunity to help pay it forward with our organization, to contribute to the mobility, independence and dignity of people in central Alberta.”

Clients range from the kid who breaks his foot playing hockey, Morey says, to those who are nearing the end of life and having mobility issues.

Tickets for Monday’s luncheon at the Sheraton Hotel are still available.
