Safe Harbour receives significant donation from Church of Christ congregation
Those less fortunate in our community stand to benefit from a generous fundraising initiative led by the congregation of the Church of Christ in Red Deer.
On Sunday, roughly 200 church members from Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Ponoka teamed up to collect food and clothing donations for the Safe Harbour Society, an organization that provides emergency shelter, support services and housing services to Red Deer’s most vulnerable.
Resident Minister Dale Vargas says roughly 140 boxes of clothing and non-perishable food was delivered on Sunday, with District Minister Rolando Gaviola also proudly in attendance.
“We do this because this is our faith,” explains Vargas. “Our faith is based on the bible and we believe that this is the second greatest commandment that our Lord Jesus Christ mentioned that we should love our neighbours as we love our selves. Our church does not just feed people with the words of God but we also try to give back food for our physical bodies.”
