Stakeholder meetings next step in Red Deer Public Schools Community Engagement process

Dec 14, 2018 | 12:26 PM

Officials with Red Deer Public Schools anticipate hosting a number of meetings with stakeholders in the New Year to help shape the District Education Plan.

This, after the recent completion of a Community Engagement process that asked parents what they felt was required to help students be successful in learning and life and what opportunities should students have in schools to be successful.

According to a Community Engagement update provided to the Board of Trustees December 12, nearly 1,500 people participated and offered 2.600 thoughts on those questions posed.

With The District’s next step being to develop priorities and strategies for the District Education Plan using the information gathered, the aim according to officials is to ultimately articulate the character attributes desired to be instilled in students in order for them to be successful.

To support that goal, Red Deer Public Schools will be hosting focus groups and town hall meetings to determine additional steps in the Community Engagement process.

The first will be a student town hall at 4:15 p.m. on January 10 at Central Services, with a second to be a community roundtable at 1:00 p.m. on January 17 at Central Services.

A city-wide school council will then take place at 7:00 p.m. on January 22 at Joseph Welsh Elementary School, while a staff town hall will be held at 4:00 p.m. on February 5 at Central Services.

A final stakeholder meeting will involve school administration on February 12, 1:00 p.m. at Central Services.
