The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will employ 10 people once it opens. Cannabis consumption is prohibited at the site, as per county approval conditions which also state the business will be responsible for preventing its patrons from “producing nuisances including, but not limited to, odour, noise and light, that may have a negative impact to adjacent sites or the surrounding area.”

While the MPC has given its approval, the applicant will have to wait for final approval from Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis before opening its doors. AGLC has suspended approvals until cannabis supply shortages are resolved.

The county approved two other cannabis retail applications in September – both of them also located near Leva Avenue – though neither has opened as of yet. March says two more applications have been submitted to the county.

March says they are treating cannabis retail applications “no differently than liquor” in that the county will approve any applications that satisfy county and provincial requirements. She adds they will “let the market decide” how many retail locations the county can accommodate.
