ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE- Council has passed third and final reading of bylaw to regulate public consumption of cannabis within the Town’s corporate limits.

The Cannabis Consumption Bylaw is now in effect.

It prohibits cannabis consumption within 10 metres of any doorway, window or air intake of a public place or workplace, unless otherwise posted.

The fine for a first offence is $250.

The bylaw also stipulates that no person shall smoke or consume cannabis on private property without the consent or permission of the owner.

Specific setbacks also apply to town-owned property.

Cannabis consumption will not be allowed within 10 metres of parks, playgrounds, skateparks, water-spray parks, trails, libraries, other recreational facilities used by the public, the Christenson Sports and Wellness Centre, the Credit Union Co-op Aquatic Centre and the Lou Soppit Community Centre.
