Airdrie RCMP arrest dangerous driving suspect

AIRDRIE- RCMP have located and arrested a 28-year-old man after a dangerous driving incident that occurred over the weekend on the QE2 and Rocky View County.

On September 22, just after 10 p.m., a member of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit attempted a traffic stop with a suspected impaired driver after observing him almost colliding with another vehicle on the QE2 near Crossfield.

The driver fled from police at a high rate of speed travelling southbound on the QE2 and then crossing the median and intentionally driving into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle travelled southbound in the northbound lanes for approximately 2 kilometres before driving through a fence and onto a range road.

The suspect vehicle attempted to get back on to the highway but was involved in a minor collision with a police vehicle and was unable to regain access to the highway.

The driver fled on foot, but was apprehended the following morning after attending a nearby home looking for assistance.

 Michael Renz, from Manitoba, has been charged with 10 offences, including:

         Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
         Possession of Stolen Property
         Obstruction and Breaching his Recognizance

He has been remanded into custody and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on September 27.
