“You know your neighbourhoods better than anyone. If you see someone or something that doesn’t belong, call the police. Your call may save a life or lead to an arrest.”

That’s the message from Ponoka RCMP in the wake of recent charges against two men for break and enter and firearms offences.

It was just before 1 a.m. Wednesday when Mounties received a call of a suspicious vehicle on 51 Street and 64 Avenue in Ponoka. Police located the vehicle and further investigation revealed it had been previously been reported stolen from Wetaskiwin County.

The vehicle fled after police activated emergency equipment, but was located a short time later. Two males were arrested and are alleged to have committed break and enters in Wetaskiwin. The vehicle was searched and nine firearms were located and seven are believed to be stolen.

Kirk Illya Kuske, 42, of no fixed address faces numerous charges which include possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm, failure to comply with a recognizance, being in a vehicle without owner’s consent, and obstruction.

Clyde Oran Rabbit, 23, of no fixed address is charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited, failure to comply with a recognizance, failure to comply with a probation order, possession of a weapon while prohibited, and obstruction.

In total there were 98 charges laid between Kuske and Rabbit.

Both accused were remanded into custody and will appearing in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Thursday.
