COALDALE – Police say a mother and her young children were lucky to escape injury when a car smashed into their house in a southern Alberta community.

RCMP in Coaldale say the family was in a different part of the home on Thursday when the car crashed into a corner where a child’s bedroom was located.

Mounties say the 70-year-old female driver was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

They say the car was on Highway 512 when it veered into the ditch, tore through some trees and hit the home so hard the vehicle became wedged in the house.
