Aug 3, 2018 | 9:41 AM

RED DEER COUNTY- Weather dependent, the Junction 42 Partnership Rest Area and parking lot will open on October 15.

The parking area will be located at the northwest corner of the QE2 and Highway 42.

The rest area will provide commercial truck traffic the opportunity to pull off the highway and rest, as well as using temporary washrooms.

The area will also have potable hot and cold water, and will be well lit for safety.

Overall, the Junction 42 plan area encompasses approximately 118 hectares (291 acres) of land located 9.5 kilometers south of the City of Red Deer.

The site is directly adjacent to the boundary of the Town of Penhold, within an area north and west of the QE2 & 42 overpass.

The Alberta Transportation service road along Gasoline Alley West is now closed, which required another area for commercial vehicles to pull off the highway.

Red Deer County Economic Development Officer Sandra Badry commented, “We have heard a lot of feedback from the commercial vehicle sector. They have a need for a rest area along the QE2 highway, and Red Deer County has partnered with the Alberta Transportation to respond to this need.”
