EDMONTON- Fire officials say an apartment building fire that caused 14-million dollars in damage was caused by a smoker.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says all residents of the 90-unit building got out after the fire started early Sunday morning, although one person was taken to hospital.
Investigators have determined the fire was caused by the improper disposal of a cigarette in potting soil on a fourth floor apartment.
The department says there have been 47 fires in the city this year related to smokers’ materials, with damage estimated at more than 19-million dollars.
