Training exercise to limit use of Red Deer River today

RED DEER- Some areas of the Red Deer River near the CPR Bridge may be closed for a training exercise on Thursday.

The City’s Environmental Services and Emergency Services staff are teaming up for a joint Spill Response training exercise and river users can expect potential closures or delays.

The training is scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and involves use of river booms in multiple locations as staff run through a training exercise meant to simulate a spill upstream of or within the city.

Staff will be on site and upstream of the training location to ensure river users are aware of any closures or potential hazards.
