Braves heading into final round of league play

The Red Deer Peewee AAA Braves baseball team is off to a strong start heading into the final round of league play leading up to provincials August long weekend.

On Friday night, Tysen Wandler threw a shutout to lead the Braves past the Calgary Jr. Dino’s 10-0.

Team officials say the Braves scored four runs in the third inning with the rally led by a triple from Mason Hastings, a single from Brett Leslie, groundout from Spencer Claerhout and a double by Avery Coumont.

Wandler went five innings on the hill, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking zero.

Mathew Murray threw one inning out of the bullpen.

The Braves scattered 12 hits in the game and they came from Dominic Skjonsberg, Matthew Murray, Mason Hastings and Avery Coumont who each managed multiple hits. Skjonsberg led the team on this night with three hits in three at bats while the Braves didn’t commit a single error out in the field. 

Elsewhere, the Mosquito AA 1 Dick’s Auto Braves snagged a late lead and defeated the Beaumont BoSox 18-6 on Saturday.

In the first inning, the Braves got their offense started, scoring one run when Kieran Peterson singled.

Gavin Nelson toed the rubber for the Braves. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three.

However, the Braves were down 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Grady Rodzinyak tripled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Team officials say both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. The Braves racked up nine hits on the day. Grady Rodinyak and Kieran Peterson each had multiple hits while Beaumont had one. In addition, the Braves didn’t commit a single error in the field.
