St. Joseph hosts first annual Evening of Excellence

Athletic and academic achievements were celebrated during the first annual Evening of Excellence at St. Joseph High School in Red Deer Thursday night.

Highlights include awards being given out to grade 12 student Holly Daniel who was recognized as Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Daniel competed in over five sports, including tennis, volleyball, basketball, handball and badminton. She also received the Volleyball MVP and Handball Coaches Award.

Grade 12 student Osvaldo Augilar received the Senior Male Athlete of the Year and competed in soccer, volleyball and basketball, also taking home the Volleyball Coaches Award.

Two new awards were also given out as part of Thursday’s ceremony, including the Father Joe Spirit Award and Falcon Pride Award.

The inaugural Father Joe Spirit Award went to Jean-Pierre Nde-Forgwang, a grade 10 student recognized for being a positive role model and a steward of his faith.

The inaugural Falcon Pride Award was given to grade 10 students Catriona Borys and Nakoli Kinum who were both recognized for demonstrating overall school pride and spirit.

In addition, awards were given out for overall academic achievement in each grade level, recognizing students who excelled in all areas of study and were positive role models in their school.

Winners included Naomi Brunner who received the grade 10 Academic Award, Hannah Goyan the grade 11 Academic Award  and Jaeyoung Lim who received the grade 12 Academic Award.
