Notley to tout oil and gas industry at chamber luncheon

May 29, 2018 | 9:51 AM

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley will discuss the importance of the oil and gas industry next week in Red Deer.

Notley will be speaking at a luncheon hosted by the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce on Monday, June 4 from 11:45 – 1:30 at the Black Knight Inn.

Tickets are available for $60 for members and $75 for non-members. The chamber is asking that attendees pre-register by e-mailing shanlan@reddeerchamber.com or calling 403-347-4491.

Notley has been locked in a dispute with her B.C. counterpart John Horgan over the approved Trans Mountain Pipeline Project.

Ottawa has the constitutional authority to build interprovincial projects like pipelines, but B.C. Premier John Horgan has gone to court to get a judge to weigh in on whether B.C.’s jurisdiction for the environment would allow him to regulate what flows through the pipeline.

Federal Finance Minister Bill Morgan announced Tuesday morning the government is spending $4.5 billion to buy Trans Mountain and all of Kinder Morgan Canada’s core assets in a bid to get the project done.

“This is a major step forward for all Canadians. We have met the deadline,” Notley tweeted following the announcement. “This project has more certainty than ever before. We won’t stop until the job is done!”
