Mock vehicle collision staged at David Thompson High School

Local fire crews from Clearwater County conducted a mock motor vehicle collision at David Thompson High School just before the May long weekend kicks off.
Caroline Ambulance, Clearwater County Highway Patrol, RCMP, Victim Services and Rocky Funeral Home all donated their time to the learning experience.
Crews staged a head-on collision with the goal to show students that real life actions have some real life consequences.
“Today was a good display that seconds of misjudgment, either it being impaired, intoxicated or just distracted can cause a pretty brutal accident and people can lose their lives from it,” says Evan Stewart, Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services (CRFRS) assistant fire chief.
Fire crews released six victims from the vehicles, portrayed by Drama students from David Thompson, in just under 20 minutes using the jaws of life.
“This community is not impartial to fatal accidents or loss of life with young members of the community,” says Stewart. “We’ve had a rough year.”
The timing of the event is largely due to students getting ready to leave school for the summer, and inevitably spending a lot more time on the road and driving into the back country.
