Two men face charges after witnesses spotted them breaking into a rural property in Red Deer County.

It was just after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon when Innisfail RCMP responded to an alarm call at the property near Highway 54 and Range Road 45 west of Raven.

RCMP received another call while en route from a witness who was near the property reporting suspicious activity. Police managed to get the owner of the property on the phone who stated no one should be on their property at the time.

Officers arrived at the location of the alarm and observed a truck parked outside a garage with a male sitting inside.  There were tracks entering the garage and when police entered the garage the located a second male inside.  Both men were arrested without incident.

Sheldon Richard Metcalf, 46, of Red Deer Alberta is charged with break and enter and was released on a recognizance with conditions to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on June 20.

Lyle Stanton Dean Whitesel, 36, of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter, possession of break in tools, possession of methamphetamine and two counts of breach of recognizance.

Whitesel has been remanded in custody to appear in court April 10.

“Cooperation between the RCMP and the public is instrumental to the success of our Crime Reduction efforts,” Innisfail RCMP said in a release. “The simple act of reporting any suspicious activity and/or crime provides us with the necessary information by which we gather intelligence.  RCMP would like to thank the public for alerting them to this activity.”
