Rocky Mountain House RCMP say targeted patrols in a crime hot spot area have led to drug trafficking charges against a local couple.

On March 13 at 12:40 p.m., local Mounties spotted a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in a targeted crime hotspot area. Officers observed a female and male in the vehicle and immediately recognized the male passenger as being wanted for breaching his recognizances.

An officer observed the passenger making efforts to conceal drugs and money from view in the vehicle. Both occupants were arrested. A subsequent search of the occupants and vehicle revealed a large amount of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and heroin.

RCMP members also located and seized a large amount of Canadian currency, a police radio scanner and drug trafficking paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Tyler Shaw, 32, and Deanne Guenther, 32, of Rocky Mountain House face numerous charges including possession of cocaine, oxycodone and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime.

Shaw was also wanted on three separate recognizances from three jurisdictions and was subsequently remanded into custody.

Guenther was released on a recognizance with a court appearance scheduled for April 11.
