2018 Red Deer Hospital Lottery raising more funds for badly needed beds

Mar 9, 2018 | 3:06 PM

Another year means another beautiful dream home to be won with the Red Deer Hospital Lottery.

It also means another chance for the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation to provide funding to the hospital for critical pieces of equipment.

Organizers officially launched their ticket campaign Friday at the dream home, which is located at 56 Larratt Close in Laredo. The lottery will enable the hospital to purchase around 20 new high-tech beds which will make the quality of stay for patients much better health and safety-wise.

Each bed costs around $40,000 says Rob Swanson, acting Executive Director of Red Deer Regional Hospital.

“Our smaller communities will be supported through this as well,” he said, noting any beds that get replaced will be redistributed to smaller hospitals in Central Zone. “Roughly 50 per cent of the patients who are discharged from our facility come from outside of metro Red Deer and Red Deer County. Our facility is truly regional, so the impact of these beds touches our entire zone in one way or another.”

This year’s $839,000 dream home is designed by Sorento Custom Homes is over 2,900 sq.ft. and features a private side entrance, double garage, yoga room, screened sunroom and much more. It also comes furnished with $35,000 worth of furniture from The Brick.

In total, the lottery offers 37 prizes valued at more than $1.1 million.

The early bird prize is $50,000 cash.

Single tickets start at $35. The early bird cut-off is 11 p.m. on May 13. The final deadline is 11 p.m. on June 24.

The show home is open daily for viewing.
