Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools approves new Pre-K program

RED DEER- Suzy Potts, Coordinator of Inclusive Learning, presented The Discovery School Pilot Project to the Board of Trustees at the last Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools board meeting on Aug. 29.

The pilot project will launch in January 2018.

A Pre-Kindergarten classroom will be located at Riverbend Golf and Recreation Area giving students a natural space to learn in.

Students from across the Division will get to experience the Discovery School classroom for one week between January and April.

A Parent/Guardian Information Session will be held soon.

Currently Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has 23 Pre-Kindergarten programs with 426 children.

The Board of Trustees also congratulated Ms. Jodi Smith, Principal at École Mother Teresa Catholic School.

She was selected as a recipient of the 2016-2017 Distinguished Leadership Award through the Council for School Leadership of the Alberta Teachers’ Association.

Board members were also updated on some of Facility Master Plan Projects that took place over the summer months.

They included:

Notre Dame High School receiving a Career Technology Studies renovation to the Foods and Mechanics area, as well as some upgrades to lighting and the front entrance.

St. Francis of Assisi Middle School has increased the size of their cafeteria, as the school outgrew the existing space.

St. Martin de Porres School’s main student washroom had additional stalls installed.

St. Teresa of Avila School renovations are still taking place to the main entrance and learning commons renovatied.

This project will continue into September with after hours and weekend work.
