Red Deer RCMP investigate suspicious package

RED DEER- RCMP were called to investigate a suspicious package late Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Mounties responded to a complaint about a package found in a vehicle at the Key Towing compound at 7627 49 Ave. in north Red Deer.

The area was evacuated as a precaution and the scene was contained.

The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was also called in to assist and was able to neutralize the item without incident at around 9 p.m. They believe the item was likely a homemade explosive device.
