Alix to host inaugural north vs. south motocross event
The inaugural North-South Shootout motocross event is this weekend in Alix.
Alix Motorcross Association President Greg Martens says organizers are hoping the competition becomes an annual thing.
“They can expect riders aged anywhere from four to 60. There are many classes including pro and intermediate,” he says. “There will be fast action, lots of jumps and lots of entertainment.”
What makes the event unique is that it will pit 350 riders against each other from the south Alberta Motorsports Association (AMSA) and the north Alberta Dirt Riders Association. The sheer number of riders makes it one of, if not the biggest race in Alberta.
“The town will definitely get a bit of a spillover with gas stations and grocery stores,” Martens adds. “For the most part, it stays on our land, but it’ll be good for the community to come and support an event like this.”
Races are happening at Xtreme Raceways (Township Road 392) on August 5 and 6. Tickets are $10.
