BEISEKER, Alta. – Bad weather may have been a factor in a highway collision that killed a 16-year-old girl and sent three other people to hospital.

RCMP say three people were in a southbound vehicle and a lone driver was in a northbound vehicle when they collided Friday night near Beiseker.

Mounties say that heavy hail and rain was occurring at the time. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene while a 67-year-old woman was flown by air ambulance to a Calgary hospital with critical, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The STARS helicopter could not land at the scene due to the inclement weather and an alternative landing zone had to be set up.

A 43-year-old woman was taken to Calgary by ground ambulance and was reported to be in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Elsewhere, a man from Maskwacis was killed in a single vehicle rollover Friday near Wetaskiwin.

Mounties say the crash happened at about 9:45 p.m. on Range Road 235 south of Township Road 452 in Wetaskiwin County.

A 2006, white, Pontiac Montana van with four occupants was heading northbound when it lost control and rolled several times.

The 29-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other occupants were transported by ambulance to a hospital in Edmonton where they are believed to be in critical condition. The fourth occupant did not sustain any significant injuries.

RCMP are investigating.
