11th Annual Central Alberta Children’s Festival bringing smiles once again
Central Albertans will celebrate the 11th annual Children’s Festival this weekend.
Judy Scott with Family Services of Central Alberta says the festival will feature some of the same and some new things.
“We’re celebrating Canada 150 this year, like the rest of Canada, and so we have some fun entertainment with that, we have a photo booth, some new activities with the park, and a teepee is coming this year, so that’ll be fun,” she says, adding there will also be singing and dancing, professional and amateur entertainers, as well as a dance-off and prizes.
“I think the whole idea is everybody’s got a little bit of stress right now in their life with the economy. This is an opportunity to just come and play and enjoy your kids — you pay your $20 at the gate for your family and you don’t have to open your wallet at all, only if you want to make some donations. Just come and have some fun.”
Stations will include Science World, Diversity Corner and face painting.
Patrons are encouraged to use public transit, to walk or ride a bike as there is road construction going on. Bike racks and a water station will be provided. As well, the Red Deer Food Bank will hold a BBQ fundraiser outside the gates of the festival.
The festival, which goes ahead rain or shine, runs 10 to 7 on Friday and 10 to 4 on Saturday at Rotary Recreation Park.
