Nov 16, 2017 | 9:20 AM

The Gifts for Grandparents program, coordinated by Family Services of Central Alberta (FSCA) and supported by many community volunteers, is underway for its 9th year.

In 2016 over 500 gift bags were delivered to isolated seniors in Red Deer just in time for Christmas. The goal for 2017 is to make Christmas brighter for 600+ seniors in our community.

Through our services and programs, FSCA realized that there are many seniors who are isolated and/or do not have family in Central Alberta to celebrate the Christmas season with. Although a small gesture, Gifts for Grandparents helps seniors in our community enjoy a Merry Christmas.

Donations are gratefully accepted until December 12th. Suggested donation items include: Lightweight blankets, toiletries for men and women, mittens, scarves toques, socks, Coffee, tea, hot chocolate cookies, chocolates, candies (including diabetic) crackers & jam, large print books (crosswords, sudoko, word search,. No used items can be accepted. Cash donations are also welcome. Donations over $10 are eligible for a tax receipt.

Donations can be dropped off at the downtown Co-op, any Shoppers Drug location, Kinsmen Family Playspace at Parkland Mall, Timberlands Pet Valu, Capri Hair Salon and FSCA.

Volunteers are also needed to help in the sorting, packing and delivering of gifts.
