Province purchases historic Parsons House

Historic Parsons House in downtown Red Deer has been sold.

The owner, Gerene Albrecht with Lee Inglis Albrecht law firm, confirms ownership of the building will transfer to the province as of June 29, 2018.

Albrecht says the house, which was designated as a Municipal Historic Resource in 1990 and is located just south of City Hall, has been lovely to work in.

“We did a lot of work to the place when we purchased it as it was in extremely bad shape; unfortunately, the place had been stripped of most of the heritage features,” she says.

“Thus there are very few original improvements still in the building, although it was renovated extensively to look original.  We spent more than twice what we paid for it to renovate it and bring it up to its current condition.”

Terms of the agreement are confidential and the Ministry of Infrastructure says it can’t comment further regarding its intentions until the transfer is officially complete at the end of June.

Options include demolishing the house, moving it, leaving it as is, or incorporating it into the new Red Deer Justice Centre next door.
