Red Deer RCMP arrest a number of drivers after high-speed pursuits

RED DEER- A number of recent arrests involved suspects fleeing police at high rates of speed, several other suspects were arrested in possession of weapons or imitation firearms.

On June 10, Red Deer RCMP located and arrested a woman who was wanted on a warrant for extortion after she allegedly attempted to extort money from a victim of theft in exchange for keys that were stolen during the theft.

Angie Marie Jury, 27, faces extortion and failing to comply with probation order charges.

Also on June 10, RCMP on patrol in south Red Deer around 9 p.m. conducted a traffic stop and located a woman who gave police a false name before being identified as a suspect who was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Tashina Shaylene Night, 24, faces a charge of obstructing a peace officer as well as her outstanding warrants.

On June 12, at 12:15 a.m. RCMP on foot patrol in downtown Red Deer located two suspects who were both wanted on outstanding warrants and were found to be breaching court-imposed conditions, police also seized a knife.

Amanda Lee Beaverbones, 31, faces outstanding warrants out of Calgary and Red Deer for probation breaches, Illegal possession or trafficking in government documents and failing to attend court.

James Mitchell, 46, was wanted on outstanding warrants out of Medicine Hat for unlawful confinement, kidnapping, assault, drug possession and breaching conditions, and warrants out of Red Deer for possession of a dangerous weapon, failing to appear in court and a number of charges of failing to comply with conditions.

He was further charged possession of a weapon and failing to comply.

Mitchell made his first court appearance on June 13 and was sentenced on those charges.

On June 13, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious male who was found in a person’s vehicle around 6 a.m.

The suspect attempted to flee but was detained by the vehicle owner until police arrived.

The suspect was wanted on several outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest and was found to be breaching court-imposed conditions.

Matthew Schoonderwoerd, 38, faces mischief and failing to comply with conditions charges.

Schoonderwoerd was arrested again on June 15 at approximately 5:30 a.m. when RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress at a residential garage on MacLeod Close and in addition to outstanding warrants charges faces an additional charge of breaking and entering.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on June 13, RCMP on patrol located a truck with a stolen license plate.

The driver of the truck drove through north Red Deer at excessive speeds and was observed running several red lights; police did not pursue for public safety reasons but located the occupants walking in the Normandeau neighbourhood.

The male and female suspects were arrested after a brief foot chase and with assistance from several citizens.

RCMP located the abandoned truck nearby and determined that it had also been stolen. 

Michael Wayne Campbell, 32, faces a long list of charges including dangerous driving and flight from police along with stolen property and failing to comply with conditions charges.

On June 14, around 10 p.m. RCMP responded to a report of a shoplifter who assaulted a grocery store security guard.

After her arrest, RCMP determined that the suspect had numerous outstanding warrants out of Red Deer, Stettler and Medicine Hat.

Maureen Susan O’Keefe, 58, faces assault and theft charges in addition to her outstanding warrants.

At 2:30 a.m. on June 15, RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in progress to a residential garage.

The victims followed the female suspect and when they confronted her, the suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at one of the victims. 

At the time of her arrest, Liticia Helen Willier, 19, was wanted on six outstanding warrants out of Camrose for possession of stolen property and misuse of credit cards, four outstanding warrants out of Innisfail for possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of break-in tools and two counts of possession of a weapon.

There was also a warrant out of Killam for possession of stolen property and five warrants out of Red Deer for weapon possession, failing to comply and obstruction of a peace officer.

Willier faces new charges of pointing a firearm, possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and failing to comply with conditions.

At 6:30 a.m. on June 16, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle and located a stolen car at the Clearview Market.

When police arrived, the driver rammed a cruiser and fled the scene, driving erratically and at high rates of speed.

 RCMP did not pursue the car, but located it abandoned nearby.

Police Dog Services attended and tracked one of the suspects to a nearby green space.

Stolen identification was found in the suspect’s possession.

Jeremy Michael Sanderson-Hayward, 29, faces Illegal possession or trafficking in government documents, possession of stolen property and a drug charge in addition to a number of outstanding warrants.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on June 17, RCMP located a suspect in a stolen pickup.

The driver refused to stop for police and fled at a high rate of speed.

RCMP re-located the suspect truck a short time later and arrested the driver, who was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants out of Red Deer and Olds. 

In addition to his outstanding warrants, Anthony Csordas, 19, faces over 12 new charges.

They include resisting arrest, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property.

Csordas is also facing charges in the carjacking of a taxi back in November of 2016.

He faces robbery and weapons charges and a trial is scheduled for August 9.
